Encore Cares is a community service program that brings a live theatre experience to kids who may not be able to access the theater. This season Sam Regardie will student-direct The Fairy Tale Network, a short one-act play by John Woodard, for the Culmore Boys & Girls Club. In addition, there will be free performances at St. Andrews and the D.C. Jewish Community Center. We are excited to expand Encore’s audience to the greater DC area and to bring theatre to those who may not have access to it.
Words from 2018 Encore Cares Student Director, Sam Regardie:
“I have been involved with Encore for almost a year now and it has been a great place for me and I have really grown as an actor. It is a special environment to be a part of where everybody is very supportive of each other and I have become very friendly with many people there.
I will be the student director for Encore Cares this year and will be in charge of all the aspects of this project including: raising money for production costs, holding auditions, then directing and performing the play. Some of the things the money raised will go to include: script costs, performance costs, and advertising.
The show that I selected for this is called “The Fairy Tale Network” by John Woodard. This is a comedic show about popular children’s fairy tales. I chose this play because it is very funny and when performing it I really want the audience to laugh and enjoy themselves. It is important to me that the audience isn’t bored with the play and that they come out of it happy and loving the theater as much as I do. The community service production will be presented at the Culmore Boys and Girls club at the end of February/beginning of March 2018. I will also be holding 1-2 other performances for the public, also free.
I am setting the Razoo goal for $3,500. The majority of this money will go to the production costs and some will go as a donation to Encore Stage and Studio. I would really appreciate any amount of support you can give. Everything will really help me get closer to my goal (and is tax deductible).
Thank you so much!”
