MTI (Grades 9-12)

Join us for Musical Theatre Intensive

Are you looking for an exciting musical theatre challenge? Musical Theatre Intensive (MTI), Encore’s pre-professional training program, provides instruction in vocal, acting, dance, and audition skills. Program culminates in a fully staged production of James and the Giant Peach. Tuition also includes a field trip to see select local theatre performances.

Bring your friends and join in the fun! Program is directed by accomplished choreographer, Kelsey Meiklejohn and Broadway performer Douglas Ullman, Jr. Rehearsals are located at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (4000 Lorcom Ln Arlington, VA 22207).

This top notch group is open to students in grades 9-12. Best for students with previous choral and dance experience. Students must commit to attending weekly rehearsals from fall through late March and tech week.

Music Director: Douglas Ullman, Jr.
Douglas Ullman, Jr., a vocal performance graduate of New York University’s Steinhardt School is the Musical Director of Encore’s Show Choir. He has worked as an actor and singer, most notably in the current Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks (The Mute and Matt). Other credits include the Asian tour of The Sound of Music (Rolf), A Funny Thing… (Hero) at Florida Repertory Theatre, Ragtime (Younger Brother), Fiorello!, Grease (Doody), and Godspell, as well as numerous readings and workshops.

Choreographer: Kelsey Meiklejohn
Kelsey Meiklejohn is a local teaching artist, actor and choreographer. She has been working with Encore for five years and has choreographed their productions of Shrek, Once Upon A Mattress, and Legally Blonde, as well as their summer Stage Door productions and the Encore Show Choir. Other choreography credits include: Kiss Me, Kate, Anything Goes, Footloose, The Wizard of Oz (Madeira School for Girls); Guys & Dolls, The 25th Annual…Spelling Bee (Episcopal High School); Secret Garden, Pirates of Penzance (Sinfonicron Light Opera Company). She is a graduate of William & Mary and Duke Ellington School of the Arts and will begin pursuing a Master’s in Theatre Education at The University of Northern Colorado this fall.
