Troop Workshops

Encore Stage & Studio offers a variety of special Girl Scout experience packages. These packages will allow girls to not only see a production, but also participate in a workshop specially designed to meet selected badge requirements while exploring theater as an art form. Our workshops are taught by seasoned, theater professionals and are designed to help scouts gain confidence in learning to express themselves in different ways. Class content will address badge requirements and teach scouts how to use their acting tools (body, voice, and imagination).

All special scout events will include:
• A pre-show workshop designed to help them earn a badge while learning about the theater
• A pre-performance meet and greet with the cast
• A fun badge for participation
• A ticket to the Sunday Matinee performance

What can we expect at the workshops?
The workshops will be pre-show. Scouts are to meet at the theatre lobby at 1:30 pm. They will end promptly at 3:00 pm so that you can take your seats for the performance. Please arrive on time because we have an exciting workshop planned!

Workshop content will address badge requirements while teaching scouts how to use their acting tools (body, voice, and imagination). The badges for each workshop have been chosen to mirror themes in the stage performance that you will see post-workshop. Performances will last 1.5-2 hours depending upon the show. Potential workshop activities may include:
• Warming up for show
• Character creation
• Elements of setting the stage
• Voice exercises
• Writing and performance
• Improvisation techniques
• Team/cast building
• Lights and sound
• Theater games

Meet and Greet with the cast is available after the show, in the lobby for the public.

We look forward to inspiring your girls to be strong, imaginative and confident in their self expression!

Here’s What Past Scout Leaders Are Saying:
“The workshop leaders were so professional and enthusiastic and really got the girls ‘acting.'”

“Not a single girl or parent complained that the event, which included the play, was too long or boring – a testament to each participant’s true engagement.”

“Our facilitator was engaging and fun right off the bat! She had 20+ girls participating! Fantastic!!”

“One of the best Girl Scout events we’ve been to! The teaching artists were great with the girls, kept them moving, and were so much fun.”

Madeline’s Christmas
“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines lived 12 little girls in two straight lines.” So begins this delightful story of Madeline’s Christmas! Miss Clavel takes the 12 little girls on a series of adventures when disaster suddenly strikes as everyone gets the flu! Everyone that is, except for the ever-resilient Madeline. Saddened that they may not be able to go home for Christmas, the girls and Miss Clavel take to their beds. A jolly visitor in red appears who reminds Madeline and her friends about the magic of the holidays.

We only get one body so we have to take care of it! Play charades, role play, use improvisation skills and more as you find out how your body works, how to stay healthy, what to do if something bugs you and how health professionals can help. Then see the play and find out how Madeline cared for all her friends!

Disney’s The Lion King Jr.
In this adaptation of the beloved Disney animated film, young actors bring the story of Simba and his friends to life with the aid of specially-constructed puppets. The young and carefree lion cub faces serious consequences that force him to flee his kingdom, leaving his cruel uncle Scar to rule in his place. In this workshop through charades, skits and improv girls will explore ways to be both courageous and strong everyday as they navigate situations at school, on the playground, at home and more.
