Troop Workshops

Encore Stage & Studio offers a variety of special Girl Scout experience packages. These packages will allow girls to not only see a production, but also participate in a workshop specially designed to meet selected badge requirements while exploring theater as an art form. Our workshops are taught by seasoned, theater professionals and are designed to help scouts gain confidence in learning to express themselves in different ways. Class content will address badge requirements and teach scouts how to use their acting tools (body, voice, and imagination).

All special scout events will include:
• A pre-show workshop designed to help them earn a badge while learning about the theater
• A pre-performance meet and greet with the cast
• A fun badge for participation
• A ticket to the Sunday Matinee performance

What can we expect at the workshops?
The workshops will be pre-show and will begin at 1:30 pm. They will end promptly at 3:00 pm so that you can take your seats for the performance. Please arrive on time because we have an exciting, fast-paced 90 minutes planned!
After the performance (which can range from 1.5-2 hours), there will be an opportunity to meet the cast in the lobby as well.

Workshop content will address badge requirements while teaching scouts how to use their acting tools (body, voice, and imagination). The badges for each workshop have been chosen to mirror themes in the stage performance that you will see post-workshop. Potential workshop activities may include:
• Warming up for show
• Character creation
• Elements of setting the stage
• Voice exercises
• Writing and performance
• Improvisation techniques
• Team/cast building
• Lights and sound
• Theater games

We look forward to inspiring your girls to be strong, imaginative and confident in their self expression!

Upcoming Girl Scout Programs

Sunday, October 16, 2016 – Brownie Double Trouble Badge Day

The Best Haunted House Ever
This production is more comedy than thriller, and will tickle your funny bone throughout! The action all takes place in a spooky old house where a former teacher did experiments on students. Two different groups of high school students think it’s a great place to host a haunted house fundraiser and there’s just enough mayhem to make your wonder if the house really is haunted.
Participation in this workshop will enable Brownie scouts in grades 2 and 3 to earn their Senses AND Making Games badges.

You can have fun playing games anywhere if you just use your imagination and your senses. Using your senses helps you to explore and appreciate the world around you. In this workshop explore your senses while learning some theater games and make up your own new games.

Sunday, January 8, 2017 – Brownie Friends Day

A Little Princess
This is a story of Sara Crewe, an intelligent and imaginative young girl, separated from her father and sent to boarding school during World War I. When things go badly and then her father is reported missing, she is only allowed to stay at the school by becoming a servant. Sara endures her new status with the help of several dear friends (both seen and unseen). Sara will remain gracious and humble, even when her fortunes change for the better.
Participation in this workshop will enable Brownie scouts in grades 2 and 3 to earn their Making Friends Badge.

Friends are another kind of family. They’re the people you have fun with and who help you when you need it. In this badge workshop make new friends with girls from other troops, role play with your new friends, learn about the power of words and how they are used, practice being a good listener, and explore what it means to be a good friend.

This workshop is full. Please e-mail if you’re interested on an additional date.

Sunday, March 12, 2017 – Juniors Make the Museum Come Alive!

Night at the Wax Museum
What happens when you are forced to go to summer school and your teacher signs you up for a work/study opportunity in a historical wax museum? Add in a lost treasure, a plot to sell and demolish the museum and a host of historical figures who may not be just all wax, and you have a full blown caper on your hands.
Participation in this workshop will enable Juniors in grades 4 and 5 to earn their Playing the Past badge.

Use your imagination to create a character from the past! In this workshop you’ll explore the many facets of character development, create your own character, dress as your character, and speak as your character. You’ll bring your own wax museum alive with your Girl Scout friends. By the end of this workshop, girls will be able to live, work, and play as their own unique characters.

Sunday, June 4, 2017 – Daisy Animal Adventure Journey Day!

The Jungle Book
The jungle is jumpin’ in this exciting classic! Mowgli the man-cub, who was raised by wolves, is coming of age and becoming a handful for his animal friends. When Shere Khan, the tiger and King of the Jungle, decides Mogli is now unwelcome to stay in the jungle, his animal friends embark on an epic journey full of twists, turns and adventure to guide him back to a human family for his safety.

Participation in this workshop will enable Daisies in grades K-1 to earn the birdbath and red robin awards to fulfill the majority of the requirements for their “It’s Your Story – Tell It! 5 Flowers, 4 Stories and 3 Cheers for Animals” Journey. The take action portion of the journey (the Tula award) will need to take place outside of the workshop.

Let’s go on an animal adventure to learn about the animals in the Jungle Book! Along the way you’ll be introduced to theater games like pantomime, improvisation and dialogue skills by role playing animal stories. Create animal puppets or masks. We’ll also talk about how you care for yourselves, how you care for animals and learn fun facts about different animals worldwide.
