Getting Ready For Your First Encore Audition!

We are pleased to welcome you to Encore Stage & Studio’s auditions! For 50 years, Encore Stage & Studio has offered young people a professionally staffed program that includes both production and educational opportunities.

Auditions: Our auditions are typically from 5:00-7:00pm. Please check our website for exact days and times. We encourage everyone to arrive by 6:30pm at the latest. Audition forms can be turned in at the audition table. Once we have received your forms, then we will give your child an audition number. We will call them first in a group to have their photo taken. Then they will be called a second time to go into the audition room. Crew will be called by name for a casual group interview with the Technical Director.

Conflicts: All conflicts must be submitted with your audition form. If you have conflicts that are not listed on the audition form, please inform the Production Manager at the audition table. No additional conflicts will be accepted after callbacks.

Callbacks: Some children will be asked to attend callbacks. They will need to be at this callback for the full two hours. If you have a conflict with this date, please inform the Production Manager when you hand in your audition paperwork. The callback list will be posted on the Auditions section of Encore’s website. Please remember we cannot call back everyone who auditions.

Cast & Crew Notification: The cast list will be posted on the Audition section of Encore’s website. Please check the specific production Information Sheet at the audition table for the date and time. The crew list will also be posted online on the Auditions page on a separate list.

Participation Agreement & Emergency Forms: All children who are selected as cast or crew members must fill out and return the Participation Agreement and Emergency Form by the first scheduled rehearsal. (These forms will be provided via email once children have been cast.)

Required Crew Dates: All crew members must attend the Parent Meeting/Crew Meeting, crew to storage, the night crew attends rehearsal, and loading the truck, as well as load-in to the theatre, tech week, brush-up rehearsal, and all performances. Crew members are also required to attend a minimum of three days in the shop. Please review the calendar for exact crew dates and times, including shop hours.

Parental Involvement: One parent/guardian must attend the Parent Meeting/Rehearsal. This applies to both cast and crew parents. Important information about upcoming rehearsals, tech week, and performances is given at this meeting. Parents are also required to volunteer several times throughout the run of the show (selling concessions, ushering, etc.) Duty charts will be distributed at the Parent Meeting, and instructions will be available. Parents will also be asked to distribute show posters and flyers to local businesses and organizations. All families are also asked to buy or sell program ads and make a contribution to Encore.

Performances: For each production, there will typically be 8 performances. Most of our shows perform Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 11:00am & 3:00pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm. About three productions a year will perform on Saturdays at 3:00pm & 7:30pm. We perform at both Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre and Gunston Theatre Arts Center. Be sure to check the rehearsal calendar for the location and times of the production you are auditioning for. For performances call time is 90 minutes prior to curtain. There will also be one brush-up rehearsal on the Thursday before the second weekend of shows. A mandatory strike session will follow the final performance. All cast and crew members will be required to stay. Please review the calendar for exact rehearsal dates and times.

Cast/Crew Party: The official cast/crew party is typically held between the performances on the second Saturday. This party is the ONLY social event sponsored by Encore. A nominal contribution of $15 will be requested for this party at the Parent Meeting.
