Encore Stage & Studio has been providing the finest in theatre education classes in Northern Virginia for over 30 years. Our focus is on the process of learning with the arts in a safe, nurturing, and dynamic environment. Our after-school programs and year-round classes help students develop creativity and self-confidence. They are targeted to all levels of experience, from introductory to advanced. Scholarship assistance for classes is available.

About Our Classes

    Our classes give students the freedom to expresses themselves in an emotionally and physically safe environment. We emphasize the process of acting and provide opportunities for students to perform. We expose children to literature and encourage creativity and fun in a professional environment. Our classes instill aspects of personal development and theatre arts training such as:

  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Self-discipline
  • Positive self-image and confidence
  • Responsibility and respect
  • Awareness of the senses
  • Use of imagination and creativity
  • Exploration and control of emptions


    We Offer Five Levels of Education Programs

  1. Creative Drama and Storytelling, Non-performance, and process-centered Mediums: Educational theatre programs aimed at beginners and younger students
  2. The Creative Process: Classes and workshops that focus on acting, voice, improvisation, imagination, and playwriting.
  3. Performance Oriented Classes: Theatre classes that emphasize scene study, plays, directing, audition techniques, comedy, and classical theatre such as Shakespeare and the Greeks.
  4. Musical Theatre: Classes and workshops that focus on voice, music, acting, choreography, song and character analysis, and teamwork.
  5. Master Classes: Workshops for the more advanced middle and high school students taught by theatre professionals.

After-School Enrichment for Grades K-8
Does your school participate in Encore’s after-school programs? If not, ask your school’s activities coordinator to email info@encorestage.org or call Encore’s education line at 703.548.1154 ext. 3.

Our after-school enrichment courses are taught by professional teaching artists. They focus on enhancing the school curriculum through the arts. Activities are geared toward strengthening SOL skills and other curriculum objectives. For the past two years, we have helped deepen the learning of English as a Second Language through our playwriting classes designed especially for these students. Our programs include: drama, movement, improvisation, and music. We also offer specialized workshops by request.
